We do not want to forget to our responsibility to know our history that helps us though culture and artifact know our present days.

Book’s creation in class.Writing in foreign languages lead the children to read what their friends write, and then, they feel able to read any other book, even written by famous writers.So, The envisaged partnership could lead to writing either a fairy tale, or an episode of a famous book such as Harry Potter, or a fantastic short story, etc etc, using the different cultures and countries involved, in order to compare different kinds of literature, (and point at the fact there are many common points between them).

My project is to build with pupils the European identity. Yes we are European citizen, but how can we feel European? Yes we are all different, but we can unify ourselves by studying our common culture. I would like to study several European books, learned between 11 and 15 years old, at the same time, with the same progression, reading the same texts and making the same evaluation with the others teachers-partners. Our culture comes from the Greece civilisation, so I would like to study the “Odyssey” by Homer, Ulysses the sailor on the Mediterranean sea. Our culture comes also from the Celtic civilisation and our culture is mixed, we are equal between men and women, so I would like to study “Tristan and Iseult”, a famous love story in the Middle-Age. We can choose books in the literature of Italy or Spain in the 16th century (like Cervantes) or England (like Shakespeare), in France with the classical 17th century (Molière for example),or Voltaire (Zadig) for the 18thcentury, or a german-romantic author in the 19th century …

We are a middle-sized mixed Grammar School of some 550 students and about 60 teachers. Our school was founded in 1906. Our place Zeulenroda-Triebes can be found right in the middle of Germany. Our town is set in beautiful natural surroundings, including a big lake, lovely hills and extensive forests. (See www.zeulenroda-triebes.de) Some more details about us: Our school's policy favours diversity, so along with a strong focus on natural sciences we try to promote and feed our students' interests in language studies, sports, arts, music and drama as well. Infact we try to provide best facilities for studying in many ways, and we encourage our students to contribute to our school's and local community and to explore and develop all their individual talents. E.g. for several years we've been staging an annual musical production that unites pupils from various years. Our students are really interested in getting in touch with peers from other countries. They are just keen on trying their foreign language and communicative skills in real life situations. So over the last years we've been involved in several international exchanges, most notably a three-year-COMENIUS1-project as coordinating school (2002-2005). Right now we are looking for some new challenge, with particular focus on traditional students exchange as well as cooperation in various cross-curricular fields. Our final goal are living, longterm partnerships with other schools.

We are open concerning the countries of origin of our potential partners. As the seminar and its topic are rather language- and book-centred, I expect the same of the ensuing partnership projects (possibly book exhibitions, tours of libraries, creation of a multilingual book project with texts written by students in their mother languages and foreign languages). Therefore it would seem advisable for the partners to be taught each other’s languages at school. At our school the modern languages are English, French and Italian.

The envisaged school partnership is as yet a relatively open project in our school. A group of teachers has been formed to coordinate the partnership itself and the projects connected with it. Our school has already got a rather wide range of school partnerhsips with annual or biennial student exchanges, but still widening the scope and variety of such exchanges is certainly one of our main incentives to join the Comenius network. On the basis of this direct experience and personal contacts we also have been considering partnership projects in the fields of common academic student projects, maybe on the basis of more frequent and institutionalised contacts via internet and possibly some kind of cooperation in our theatre or music activities. If this sounds a bit vague, this is due to the still rather open phase of our considerations. We are only beginning to move into the Comenius network and we will be happy to receive inspriation from other schools.

WE HAVE BEEN INTERESTED IN A PROJECT THAT LOOKED AT CIRCUS IN THAT IT WAS AN EARLY EXAMPLE OF INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION WITH NO RELIGIOUS/MILITARY IMPLICATIONS. IT CAN BE SEEN IN LITERATURE AND CINEMA BUT IT HAS THE POTENTIAL FOR PERFORMANCE AND THE OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS TO PARTICIPATE.

Pupils will create an e-book named “The legends of European cities”. By doing this students from different countries will have close acquaintance with cultural heritage and legends of cities foundation in Europe. All of this study will relate pupils directly to improvement of their learning.

Taking into account that in our summer holiday it had been initiated a twining project with a school from Poland, it is desired the creation of an electronic on-line book, to present local informations from different fields of activity (economical, social, cultural). As an English teacher I believe that culture is an inseparable part of language, therefore language can not be taught without raising awareness of its cultural context. I think reading skill, along with others, has an important place in that it provides cultural content for the readers by means of the ideas and illustrations on texts or other reading materials. Since this seminar includes the idea of culture and book combination,I plan to suggest the idea of raising cultural knowledge and competences via books, or even common e-books. My first aim is to create a common e-book or a web-site which will be continuously held updated with school partners I will meet. I plan to call this e-book “e-culture”.

We are going to make a project about culture through folk music.Before taking part in the seminar, my colleagues and I will search about Turkish folk music and how songs are composed and sung.I will present examples of Turksih folk music to my colleagues from different countries.I will also bring a book of Turkish folk songs for the participants in the seminar.My aim to take part in the contact seminar is to find European partners to develop a Comenius project for the next call for proposals.If we are able to find partners for the projects, they will also make searches about the source of their traditional folk music.During the implementation of the project, students will learn to sing each others` folk songs and how they are revealed.In this way, they will have chance to learn and practise a foreign language.The project will also contribute to develop cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue among students and teachers By introducing Turkish folk songs to European partners while they introduce theirs to us.

When they do contact the otside world or different cultures their lives usually change.
