Český Krumlov city

Český Krumlov is a unique architectural jewel, whose importance is underlined by the fact that it was included in the UNESCO List of the World Cultural Heritage in 1992.
Above the meanders of the river Vltava a unique complex of municipal housing developed, mainly in the 16th century, along with an extensive castle and chateau complex, the second largest in the country after the Prague Castle.
The historical seat of the Rosenberg family includes a variety of chateau buildings, the famous Hall of Masks, the unique Baroque theatre, the chateau garden with a Rococo fountain and the summer residence Bellaria with revolving auditorium, where seasonal theatre performances take place. The Cathedral of St. Vitus, a valuable architectural work of the Czech Gothic style, is a significant dominant of the town. Numerous cultural activities contribute to the lively atmosphere of the town, among them the International Music Festival, the Old Music Festival, exhibitions at the Egon Schiele Center, and the Five-Petalled Rose Festival (the rose was a symbol of the Rosenber family).

Workshops

Below you can find short information about three workshops that are going to take place on Saturday 8.11.2008.

Everybody will have the possibility to participate in two of them.

Workshop I.

Scriptorium. The book as an experience

In this workshop participants will play games inspired by ancient and medieval letters. They will be asked to actively experience various activities – card games, creative games, story making or role playing. This workshop shows teachers how to have fun with history of communication.

Ms. Klára Smolíková teaches secondary and college students and teachers of children. She contributed to the establishment of a new department of book studies for librarian students in the Secondary vocational school of commerce, services and crafts in the town of Tabor five years ago. In Prague she teaches a course of media literacy at the Faculty of Education. She writes methodical materials, worksheets and textbooks and she is an author of several children books.

Workshop II.

Using ICT tools in European project

My name is Pavla Sabatkova and I work as a teacher of English and an eTwinning ambasador. The aim of my workshop is to introduce blog as a suitable ICT tool in European project. All the participants will practise using blog to become familiar with editing some text, pictures or videos in the blog. I would like each participant to be able to create his/her own simple blog at the end of the workshop.

Workshop III.

What can library do for you?

There is no discussion about the fact, that libraries are very useful institutions, because they offer connection to many different sources of information. But what they really offer to schools, teachers and pupils/students? Some examples of activities which libraries can do to help you in your work are content of this workshop. We will try to define different types of libraries and focus on their services, especially for schools.

Lenka Hanzlíková is a graduated librarian, who has been working in library since year 1996. She is working at the Municipal Library of Prague (www.mlp.cz) on different positions since 1997. Her latest position is Head of the Communication Department, but she is interested in events and activities for children (not only „school“ children) in libraries for a long time.

Draft application form

On this website you can find English (EN), German (DE) and French (FR) version of Application form 2008 for School Partnership (it is not eligible for 2009).

The application form for 2009 will be published soon and should be similar to the 2008 one.

Programme

Detailed information will follow soon.

What to bring

Typical food/snacks or drinks from your country/region. Don't bring too much!

Your favourite book written by your national author.

Martina´s favourite book

Saturnin is a 1942 humorous novel by Zdeněk Jirotka (1911-2003), The story is settled in atmosphere of the thirties ot the 20th centrury and is full of „English“ dry humour I like it. There are characters like the dangerous and clever servant Saturnin, the annoying Aunt Kateřina and her son Milouš, Uncle František, Doctor Vlach, and the narrator's grandfather. This novel is strongly inspired by work of English authors, esp. Jerome K. Jerome and by novels and short stories by English writer P. G. Wodehouse, which features the character of the servant Jeeves. It has been translated into English, Spanish and Italian.

Participants

Ms. Jaroslava Steidlová, Czech Republic

We would like to contribute to development of cultural learning. We think that one thing that children need is to learn how to learn, where they can find information about things they like. The know different types of resources like magazines, books, internet, … ICT and other thing but most of them need to know how they work, how can I find what I am looking for. It is really important to develop competence for collecting information using different types of resources. We do not want to forget to our responsibility to know our history that helps us though culture and artifact know our present days.

Mr. Papoun Mickael, France

Our potential project deals with local culture and gastronomy. How local traditions determine what we eat and influence local recipes. Our objective is the conception of a cookbook with related cultural facts.

Age of pupils: 11-16

Ms. Véronique Repeczky, France

Book’s creation in class.Writing in foreign languages lead the children to read what their friends write, and then, they feel able to read any other book, even written by famous writers. So, The envisaged partnership could lead to writing either a fairy tale, or an episode of a famous book such as Harry Potter, or a fantastic short story, etc etc, using the different cultures and countries involved, in order to compare different kinds of literature, (and point at the fact there are many common points between them).

Age of pupils: 11-15

Ms. Linda Pipet, France

Our project is about memories : memory of human beings, of old works, of lanscapes, of traditions and many other things … what is interesting for us is to see the links between peoples, between generations, between countries, that is why we are applying for the Comenius partnership.

Age of pupils: 11-15

Mr. Jean Requejo-Carrio, France

My project is to build with pupils the European identity. Yes we are European citizen, but how can we feel European? Yes we are all different, but we can unify ourselves by studying our common culture. I would like to study several European books, learned between 11 and 15 years old, at the same time, with the same progression, reading the same texts and making the same evaluation with the others teachers-partners. Our culture comes from the Greece civilisation, so I would like to study the “Odyssey” by Homer, Ulysses the sailor on the Mediterranean sea. Our culture comes also from the Celtic civilisation and our culture is mixed, we are equal between men and women, so I would like to study “Tristan and Iseult”, a famous love story in the Middle-Age. We can choose books in the literature of Italy or Spain in the 16th century (like Cervantes) or England (like Shakespeare), in France with the classical 17th century (Molière for example),or Voltaire (Zadig) for the 18thcentury, or a german-romantic author in the 19th century …

Age of pupils: 11-15

Ms. Alexandra von Bargen, Germany

Childrens´ rights: How can they be put into practice in every day school-life? How they can be implemented in education and how can pupils participate in working them out? What is usually done in schools in other countries?

Age of pupils: 10-19

Mr. Dirk Ruynat, Germany

We are a middle-sized mixed Grammar School of some 550 students and about 60 teachers. Our school was founded in 1906. Our place Zeulenroda-Triebes can be found right in the middle of Germany. Our town is set in beautiful natural surroundings, including a big lake, lovely hills and extensive forests. (See www.zeulenroda-triebes.de) Some more details about us: Our school's policy favours diversity, so along with a strong focus on natural sciences we try to promote and feed our students' interests in language studies, sports, arts, music and drama as well. Infact we try to provide best facilities for studying in many ways, and we encourage our students to contribute to our school's and local community and to explore and develop all their individual talents. E.g. for several years we've been staging an annual musical production that unites pupils from various years. Our students are really interested in getting in touch with peers from other countries. They are just keen on trying their foreign language and communicative skills in real life situations. So over the last years we've been involved in several international exchanges, most notably a three-year-COMENIUS1-project as coordinating school (2002-2005). Right now we are looking for some new challenge, with particular focus on traditional students exchange as well as cooperation in various cross-curricular fields. Our final goal are living, longterm partnerships with other schools.

Age of pupils: 10-18

Ms. Marija Hirsch, Germany

We are open concerning the countries of origin of our potential partners. As the seminar and its topic are rather language- and book-centred, I expect the same of the ensuing partnership projects (possibly book exhibitions, tours of libraries, creation of a multilingual book project with texts written by students in their mother languages and foreign languages). Therefore it would seem advisable for the partners to be taught each other’s languages at school. At our school the modern languages are English, French and Italian.

Age of pupils:?

Ms. Veronika Gonzales Balzar, Germany

Mr. Mathias Donat, Germany

The envisaged school partnership is as yet a relatively open project in our school. A group of teachers has been formed to coordinate the partnership itself and the projects connected with it. Our school has already got a rather wide range of school partnerhsips with annual or biennial student exchanges, but still widening the scope and variety of such exchanges is certainly one of our main incentives to join the Comenius network. On the basis of this direct experience and personal contacts we also have been considering partnership projects in the fields of common academic student projects, maybe on the basis of more frequent and institutionalised contacts via internet and possibly some kind of cooperation in our theatre or music activities. If this sounds a bit vague, this is due to the still rather open phase of our considerations. We are only beginning to move into the Comenius network and we will be happy to receive inspriation from other schools.

Age of pupils: 10-19

Ms. Kerstin Schliephake, Germany

Collaboration with schools from different countries, contacts between pupils besides the project

Age of pupils: 10-16

Ms. Zoltanne Skultety, Hungary

We can collect legends and stories about our city or our country and make a book with illustration drawn with Paint programme. Children from special classes can translate the stories into English or German, in IT classes pupils can use Word programme to make the book. We with partners can make an own story about all our countries.

Age of pupils: 6-14

Ms. Hannah Curling, Ireland

The Comenius Partnership will help to encourage understanding of different cultures among our students through links with other schools in various European countries. The project will also help to promote the improvement of English and ICT skills by looking at texts and the creation of books by others and themselves.

Age of pupils: 11-13

Mr. James Neary, Ireland

WE HAVE BEEN IN COMENIUS PARTNERSHIPS IN THE PAST AND WE ARE CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR PARTNERS. WE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A PROJECT WITH CULTURAL RATHER THAN SOCIAL/POLITICAL DIRECTIONS. WE HAVE BEEN INTERESTED IN A PROJECT THAT LOOKED AT CIRCUS IN THAT IT WAS AN EARLY EXAMPLE OF INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION WITH NO RELIGIOUS/MILITARY IMPLICATIONS. IT CAN BE SEEN IN LITERATURE AND CINEMA BUT IT HAS THE POTENTIAL FOR PERFORMANCE AND THE OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS TO PARTICIPATE.

Age of pupils: 12-18

Ms. Angela Andolfi, Italy

Age of pupils: 11-14

Ms. Kristina Urbonienė, Lithuania

This project will give the opportunity to create partnerships all over Europe and it will let me share good experience with other teachers. I will present my school to the colleagues from other countries. Our students will participate in this project willingly because IT is integrated in the learning and teaching processes and children are familiar with it. They will improve their communicative, digital, social and language competences. Our school will find partners in other countries.

Age of pupils: 11-18

Ms. Jurgita Vaitiekuniene, Lithuania

Pupils will create an e-book named “The legends of European cities”. By doing this students from different countries will have close acquaintance with cultural heritage and legends of cities foundation in Europe. Reading of the e-book in native and foreign languages will develop the communicative competence as well as broaden students’ knowledge, skills and experience in information technology. All of this study will relate pupils directly to improvement of their learning.

Age of pupils: 6-17

Mr. Knut Lyshaug, Norway

We hope and expect to get in contact with other schools working towards similar aims. (Create composite texts with images, illustrations etc. both manually and using digital tools. Process digital texts and discuss the effects, Use library and digital information channels, get to know several authors around Europe). And maybe there is a chance to start working towards a Comenius partnership-project.

Mr. Dumitru Adrian Cepan, Romania

On the school year 2007-2008, following the project “The Economy based on knowing” that is presently unrolling cooperating with the Local Comunity (authorities, parents etc), our school has got 20 computers, permanently connected on the internet. Taking into account that in our summer holiday it had been initiated a twining project with a school from Poland, it is desired the creation of an electronic on-line book, to present local informations from different fields of activity (economical, social, cultural). We want to find new schools from different countries that want to work in a future e-book Comenius project.

Age of pupils: 6-16

Ms. Madalina Mateut, Romania

This kind of cooperation opens a window to the world which completes the knowledge from books. Knowing different aspects of European schools and finding solutions to the problems will motivate the application of new management strategies in our school. We think that this cooperation will contribute to enhancing the quality and to reinforce the European dimension by encouraging innovation in pedagogical methods. Both teachers and students involved in the project achieve relevant abilities both for professional and personal life, such as solving problems, creativity, innovation, team work.

Age of pupils: 15-19

Age of pupils: 12-16

Ms. Deniz Alptekin, Turkey

As an English teacher I believe that culture is an inseparable part of language, therefore language can not be taught without raising awareness of its cultural context. I think reading skill, along with others, has an important place in that it provides cultural content for the readers by means of the ideas and illustrations on texts or other reading materials. Since this seminar includes the idea of culture and book combination,I plan to suggest the idea of raising cultural knowledge and competences via books, or even common e-books. My first aim is to create a common e-book or a web-site which will be continuously held updated with school partners I will meet. I plan to call this e-book “e-culture”.

Age of pupils: 10-15

Ms. Gonca Karacayr, Turkey

We are going to make a project about culture through folk music. Before taking part in the seminar, my colleagues and I will search about Turkish folk music and how songs are composed and sung.I will present examples of Turksih folk music to my colleagues from different countries.I will also bring a book of Turkish folk songs for the participants in the seminar. My aim to take part in the contact seminar is to find European partners to develop a Comenius project for the next call for proposals. If we are able to find partners for the projects, they will also make searches about the source of their traditional folk music.During the implementation of the project, students will learn to sing each others` folk songs and how they are revealed. In this way, they will have chance to learn and practise a foreign language. The project will also contribute to develop cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue among students and teachers By introducing Turkish folk songs to European partners while they introduce theirs to us.

Age of pupils: 7-15

Mr. Pınar Doğanay, Turkey

In Bartın many students live in places far away from modern big cities. Some of these students have never had any communication outside of their small villages or cities. When they do contact the otside world or different cultures their lives usually change. We want to meet different cultures and also prove that differences between nations are not problem, on the contrary they are wealth of cultures. We believe that all the nations can go hand in hand.
